Lawmakers say the army’s plans to expand the Piñon Canyon training facility in southeast Colorado would devastate the state’s agriculture industry and heritage. A bill to try and stop the army from using eminent domain powers to seize ranches passed the senate Wednesday. Governor Bill Ritter would not say whether he would sign the measure. Bente Birkeland reports from Denver.

Fort Irwin (CA) is the IDEAL place to expand by 5,000 acres. It is a well-developed “live fire”, totally automated (Including laser) large firing range. It is in the DESERT. No ranches would be destroyed by expanding it. There is NO AGRICULTURE in the area. So why does the Army want to disposess “generation ranchers” in Colorado rather than expanding where people would be oblivious to same…?
I speak from experience working in 7th Army Training Command (Europe), which has “sister” training sites in Europe.
